CHIEF TOXICOLOGIST

Office of Medical Examiner & Trauma Services Broward County (Fort Lauderdale), FL

   Salary range - $81,108 - $133,016 per year (dependent upon qualifications) (Board Certified – $100,000 - $133,016)

 

THE CHALLENGE:  Broward County is seeking a talented and motivated leader to accept the challenges of Chief Forensic Toxicologist in a rapidly changing agency seeking accreditation within the next 24 months.  The successful candidate must be interested in being part of a practice that is involved in the community and continually seeking innovations for improving the system in serving the residents of Broward County, Florida.

THE MEDICAL EXAMINER’S OFFICE:  The Broward County Office of Medical Examiner & Trauma Services is one of 24 Medical Examiner Districts in the State of Florida.  The annual budget for FY 2013 is approximately $6 million and the office is composed of a staff of approximately 40 including forensic pathologists, investigators, photographers, toxicologists, administrators and trauma services.

THE REQUIREMENTS:  Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in toxicology, chemistry, pharmacology, biology or physics or other field closely related to this assignment; nine (9) years of experience in a large scale toxicology laboratory which includes two (2) years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.

 

BOARD CERTIFICATION:  Candidates possessing current Board Certification are preferred.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Must obtain licensure by the State of Florida to perform blood alcohol tests within six (6) months following appointment. Must be a member of the Society of Forensic Toxicologists and/or the Toxicology Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.  Must be board certified by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology or obtain such

certification within 2 years of commencement of employment.   All education

and experience must be documented.
