Laboratory Name: Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory
This Section Head position will provide operational and technical supervision to the Drug Testing Lab to detect drugs and residues in animal tissues and excretions/secretions, as well as in contraband products and environmental samples. Activities will include confirming accuracy of results; interpreting and communicating test results with clientele; providing written reports and statistical data on laboratory findings; initiating developmental work; ensuring maintenance of equipment; ensuring quality control monitoring of laboratory processes in the Drug Testing Lab; and, preparing and overseeing preparation of legal documents for administrative and judicial hearings regarding the finding of illegal drugs. Incumbent will advise supervisor regarding capabilities of testing procedures and will provide select staff recruitment, selection, evaluation, and development.
Successful candidates must possess a MS (in chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, or related field) and have three years’ experience in analytical chemistry. Excellent communication skills and ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others are also required. An advanced degree (e.g., PhD), five years’ experience in analytical chemistry, two years’ experience in racing chemistry, and experience supervising personnel are also preferred qualifications. This position is security-sensitive and applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation.
