Volunteering is not only a fantastic way to contribute to our event, but it also offers you the chance to:

  • Be at the Heart of the Action: Assist attendees at the Check-in Desk and be their first point of contact.
  • Explore Behind the Scenes: Get a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on how a major conference is organized, gaining insights into the logistics and operations of event planning.
  • Learn new skills: Join the Audio Visual Coordinator to support our AV setup and management.
  • Enjoy Early Morning Energy: Help direct participants during the Karla Moore Fun Run/Walk on Thursday morning.
  • Network and Connect: Meet and interact with professionals from diverse backgrounds, fostering new connections and strengthening your professional network
  • Have Fun and Give Back: Enjoy the dynamic environment, make new friends, and contribute to the success of an event that brings together the forensic community.

How to Apply

Explore the various volunteer roles below and find the one (or more!) that suits you best. Apply by August 30 to be part of SOFT 2024 Volunteer Team!

Volunteer Opportunities:

Registration Preparation (Saturday, 10/26)

  • Role: Assist with pre-conference registration activities.
  • Duties: Organize and prepare registration materials, set up the registration area, and ensure all attendee badges and giveaway items are ready for distribution.
  • Skills Needed: Attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to lift and carry materials.

YFT Symposium (Sunday, 10/27)

  • Role: Support the Young Forensic Toxicologists Symposium.
  • Duties: Help with setup, distribute materials, guide participants, and assist speakers with any logistical needs.
  • Skills Needed: Communication skills, customer service, interest in engaging with young professionals.

Check-in Desk/Registration (Sunday, 10/27 – Thursday, 11/01)

  • Role: Be the welcoming face of the conference.
  • Duties: Greet attendees, assist with check-in processes, distribute conference materials, and provide general information and support.
  • Skills Needed: Friendly demeanor, multitasking ability, customer service experience.

AV Support (Monday, 10/28 & Tuesday, 10/29)

  • Role: Assist the AV Coordinator with various audio-visual needs during the conference.
  • Duties: Help monitor AV during SOFT workshops.
  • Skills Needed: Basic technical skills, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.

Workshop Registration/Monitoring (Monday, 10/28 & Tuesday, 10/29)

  • Role: Oversee workshop registration and monitor sessions.
  • Duties: Manage attendee check-ins for workshops, distribute materials, and ensure the sessions run smoothly.
  • Skills Needed: Organizational skills, customer service, punctuality.

Poster Session (Wednesday, 10/30 & Thursday, 10/31)

  • Role: Facilitate the setup and coordination of the poster sessions.
  • Duties: Assist with the setup of poster numbers, help presenters with their materials, and provide information to attendees.
  • Skills Needed: Organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, communication skills.

Anheuser Busch Off-Site Event (Wednesday, 10/30)

  • Role: Support the logistics of the off-site event at Anheuser Busch Brewery.
  • Duties: Assist with welcoming attendees to the venue, and ensure smooth operations during the event.
  • Skills Needed: Communication skills, customer service, Ability to work off-site at the Anheuser Busch Venue

Karla Moore Fun Run (Thursday, 10/31)

  • Role: Help organize and direct the Karla Moore Fun Run.
  • Duties: Set up the course and direct participants.
  • Skills Needed: Early riser, energetic, ability to provide clear directions.

SOFT Business Meeting (Thursday, 10/31)

  • Role: Assist with the logistics of the SOFT Business Meeting.
  • Duties: Manage attendee check-in, distribute materials, and provide general support during the meeting.
  • Skills Needed: Organizational skills, attention to detail, punctuality.

President's Banquet (Thursday, 10/31)

  • Role: Support the planning and execution of the President's Banquet.
  • Duties: Assist with setup and ensuring a seamless experience for attendees during the banquet.
  • Skills Needed: Friendly demeanor, customer service experience, ability to work in a formal setting.
